Learning and Teaching Resources
The Royal Geographical Society offers a series of Key Stage 3 modules that have been developed by teachers for teachers. There are a wide range of units of work and resources that can be downloaded for use in the classroom. A range of topics are covered from tourism through to resilience, risk and management as well as the geography of conflict.
Each unit is outlined according to key content that will be covered. Secondary teachers of Geography can gain a good overview of content in a module and identify how the resources can support their teaching.
Module Plans to Download and Adapt
Secondary teachers can download the KS3 modules in PDF or as a Word document if they wish to adapt it electronically. The planning for each module identifies the key concepts of the curriculum for Geography that is addressed through a lesson and sequences of lessons. Planning sheets note the range and content aspect of the curriculum covered by the module and this can help KS3 teachers ensure they are providing a broad and balanced experience of Geography. Key questions and ideas within a lesson are clearly identified and teaching and learning activities are laid out in a manner that is easy to follow. KS3 teachers will also find that the planning offers ample links to additional resources required.
The lesson plans forming the modules are an excellent starting point for refreshing a scheme of work or as a source of ideas that can be easily incorporated into existing schemes of work in schools.
The materials on this website were originally developed as part of a government-funded initiative. It may be very worthwhile visiting this website and downloading resources in the event they are no longer maintained online in the future.
