Learning and Teaching Resources

Free Primary School Resources on The Olympic Games 2012

LCP offers free Olympic Games resources aimed at primary schools that can be used at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Three resources for teachers are offered: KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2.

Key Stage 1 Resource Pack on The Olympics 2012

At KS1, teachers are provided with three worksheet activities. One of these encourages children to consider the prizes given to athletes who won events in the Ancient Greek Games and those that are awarded in the Modern Olympic Games. This has good links to the History curriculum by comparing the past and present in a simple, yet effective way. There are templates provided so that children can design their own medals and an Ancient Greek sporting events matching activity.

A Lower Key Stage 2 Resource Pack for Year 3 and Year 4

This offers a template for children to design their own Greek pot. This has cross-curricular links with History and Art. An activity sheet is provided that involves data handling using a table to extract data about medal winners in Beijing 2008.

Upper Key Stage 2 Olympic Game Resources

These feature bingo cards that can be used to learn about different sporting events. There are suggested activities for looking at healthy lifestyles.

The resources offered by LCP provide a starting point to primary school teachers who are considering teaching about the Olympics as a topic in the remainder of the Summer Term 2012. They could be used to supplement teaching and learning activities that have already been planned.
