For Citizenship based classes, this site can help schools become economic and teach children how to take responsibility.
Learning and Teaching Resources
Eco-Schools supports schools in becoming sustainable. This extends beyond the UK to many countries across the world.
Schools can register for free and link up with other Eco-Schools to explore ways of working together on environmental issues. Once registered, schools can access a process by which they can identify environmental themes of relevance, interest or importance to them.
Children take responsibility for auditing how their schools address environmental concerns and make decisions in terms of what they will focus on and how they will go about doing this. This can involve consulting with the school community and others in the local area. On the website, action plan templates are provided for schools to use and examples of Eco Codes that can be developed. There are also posters available for display or use in the classroom or even assemblies.
Schools who take the opportunity of becoming an Eco-School and involving children in making real-life decisions about the school and local environment can work towards Bronze, Silver and Green Flag Awards to have their contributions recognised.
