Free Business Studies KS3 Teaching Resources for Secondary Teachers

Developing Peoples Skills through Business Studies

Business Studies may not be taught as a discrete subject at Key Stage 3, but the materials in this section can be used to develop pupils’ economic and financial understanding. For example, NatWest MoneySense for Schools provides resources on personal finance that can be used with pupils.

When teaching about the banking/money side to any business the Bank of England Museum site has a brilliant range of recourses (such as videos, information cards, glossaries and more) that explains how to use money effectively, how to keep on top of banking and lots more that relates to a business.

KS3 Curriculum

The Key Stage 3 Economic Well-Being and Financial Capability curriculum seeks to develop pupils’ understanding of the world of work, business and how to manage their money effectively. Through this pupils can learn to understand different business environments and consider their use of money as consumers of a range of goods and services. It enables them to understand and explain financial terms and products. Enterprise activities can be used to develop pupils’ capability to manage money and understand risks and rewards.

Students must be taught about how to run a good business and be made aware of what aspects and actions that makes a bad business. Up-to-date examples of businesses can be helpful when teaching this as they provide proof and also they can provide ideas and inspiration for a student setting up their own business.

Through incorporating aspects of business, finance and economic understanding into the curriculum, pupils have an opportunity to gain insight that will support them in the future and may lead to an interest in pursuing Business Studies at Key Stage 4 as a subject in its own right.

Bnet has a great selection of videos covering a range of subjects of business studies such as small businesses, marketing & investing, leadership and more. They’ll help engage the students as they provide facts, information and real life examples of what is happening in the world of business today.
