New Resources from Practical Action
Energy and the Millennium Development Goals
Access to energy in developing countries is vital if we are to achieve the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. This resource from Practical Action comprises of a PowerPoint presentation which introduces the MDGs and helps students understand the important role energy plays in enabling us to achieve them. A short activity then confirms their understanding.
Designed for a single lesson, the resource is primarily for KS3 (11-14year) geography students.
Making Markets Work
Making markets work is a hands-on series of activities from Practical Action covering 4-5 lessons that will develop understanding of geography’s big concepts of systems, development and decision-making, within the context of South Asia. It uses the milk market system in Bangladesh as an example.
Thinking skills strategies and aspects of the SEAL curriculum are incorporated to help students understanding of how market systems work in developing countries. The use of this current and up to date development initiative ensures that the pupils are learning about real places and people.
Designed primarily for KS3 it could be easily adapted for KS2 and KS4 pupils.
