Teaching Resources for Geography and Citizenship

Thursday 9th December 2010

The ActionAid website offers free and paid for curriculum-linked resources, school talks and campaigns that will bring the people ActionAid works with and their stories into your classroom. The resources enable you to take action in your school on global issues with free downloads including lesson ideas and powerpoint presentations on the Pakistani floods and "climate hero" stories of real people affected.

PowerDown is an award-winning multimedia resource for geography, citizenship and science focusing on climate change and how it is already affecting young people around the world. The toolkit available also encourages pupils and teachers to get involved by exploring ideas on how to cut energy in your school.

You can also download a free copy of the Get Global! teachers guide on how to facilitate and assess active global citizenship. The guide includes a range of innovative and participatory activities to promote a skills-based approach rather than a content-based approach, so they can be used within different subject areas and with all ages.

The website has details on and a link to the Send My Friend to School campaign website, aimed at getting all children worldwide into primary school education by 2015. You can order a free schools pack from the website and access other free teaching resources.
