Primary and Secondary Resources on The Olympic Games 2012

The Olympics 2012 open on Friday 27th July and the Games run through to Sunday 12th August. With the Olympics occurring in the summer holidays, it is likely that teachers in primary schools and secondary schools will be looking for resources to teach about this significant event for the UK ahead of the Games and summer break. Well, there is a wealth of resources available and here are two examples of teaching and learning materials that can support planning lessons about the Olympics 2012.

Free Teaching Resources from LCP on The Olympic Games 2012

LCP offer a resource pack for KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2. These are useful for inspiring teaching and learning activities at primary school level. The teaching resources have cross-curricular elements making them suitable for topic teaching.

Olympic Games 2012 Secondary School Resource Pack for Secondary Schools

Bridges have created a resource pack filled with teaching and learning ideas on The Olympic Games 2012 within the theme of ‘Heroes and Heroines’. The lessons cover the qualities of heroes and heroines, issues that make heroism necessary in the contemporary world and how the Olympic values can help to improve lives. The lesson plans in this pack are detailed and activity sheets are provided for classroom use.

The great aspect of this resource pack for secondary schools is that it can be used in several ways to suit different schools and how they might wish to acknowledge the Olympics 2012. It is recommended that teachers at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 have a look at what this teaching resource has to offer and the teaching and learning activities that could be used in the classroom to mark the Games.
