Literacy Teaching Magazines for KS1 and KS2

Saturday 20th February 2010

The Literacy Club (TLC) is a meeting place for all those involved in the literacy development of children aged 5 to 11.  It is a place where teachers, parents and children can find inspiration, access instant activities and share ideas.  All the teaching resources are written by expert authors and provide ready to use classroom ideas that support creative, cross-curricular literacy planning and help inspire children and improve their literacy levels.

The Literacy Club is the UKs only provider of magazines dedicated to primary literacy and containing ready-to-use resources. The bimonthly, 28-page TLC Teacher is packed with expert features and practical lesson plans, and comes with all the texts needed to put the ideas straight into practice in the classroom.  You do need to subscribe to the magazine (£54 per year), however, each issue comes with FOUR copies of TLC Kids – 16-pages of stories, poems and non-fiction, written by top authors and linked to cross-curricular themes. Every issue is supported by interactive online resources, and comes with FREE Ideas for parents, to help parents and carers support their child’s literacy development at home.

On their website you can take a look at a free sample magazine and online resources. The TLC website also produces a wide range of literacy resources, texts, games and activities for the 5 to 7 and 7 to 11 age range. There are many free teaching resources on their website, including stories, poems, non-fiction texts, interactive literacy games and activities and many are on topical themes such as Christmas and Bonfire Night as well as cross-curricular themes like The Vikings or Weather. The resources are supported by downloadable Activity Sheets, Teachers Notes and Ideas for parents.

The website is organised into Zones - with areas for Teachers, Parents and Children - and there is a special Author Zone where you can find out about TLC Authors and hear about the latest literacy resources on the market.
